DEN HÄR ARTIKELN KOMMER FRÅN Frere-Jones »

Lottery ticket from France, 1936.

It began as scattered thoughts on banknote design. It’s since grown into a much longer story, with crime and punishment, three different wars, and a guy selling donuts.

I’m finishing off In Letters We Trust, the keynote presentation at TypeCon, about letterforms made and used as security devices. I’ve been writing, and rewriting. Also adding, subtracting and rearranging. Visiting libraries too, talking with curators and chasing references. Research projects have a knack for expansion, and after finding more examples like these lottery tickets, this one is no exception. I hope you can join me later this month in Washington DC!

Lottery ticket from Latvia, 1965.
