Communication Arts Award for FF Franziska

GÅ TILL FONTFONT »We are delighted to announce that one of our newest FontFonts, FF Franziska by Jacob Runge, has been included in the prestigious Communication Arts 2015 Typography Annual.

The latest annual is the fifth edition and 140 winners were picked from over 1,800 entries. This year’s judges included John Clark, Juan Carlos Pagan and Laura Worthington.

Jumpthegap International Design Contest

Jumpthegap is an international design contest promoted by Roca with the collaboration of BCD Barcelona Design Centre that is looking for new, innovative and sustainable concepts for the bathroom space.
Jumpthegap offers the opportunity to young designers or architects and design or architecture students to create and design innovative sustainable solutions for the bathroom and related products.More than 50% of the products that we will use in 10 years have not yet been manufactured, much less designed. This sixth edition of Roca International Design Contest is aimed at creative people who think towards the future whilst designing today.

Welcome to a new monthly roundup of type-related info and entertainment. (This will be in addition to Sean Mitchell’s excellent This Week in Fonts feature.) This month, we have movies (about sign painters, and Eric and John Gill), books (about Porchez, Baskerville, Spiekermann, and typewriter art, as well as books by Steven Heller and Gail Anderson), a Flickr group that points at things, a free typography course with Ellen Lupton, ladies of letterpress, medieval marginalia, all sorts of lettering and typography, some fun new fonts, and more.

As part of a review of it’s licensing model, leading type design studio Fontsmith, has launched a new service, Brandfont®, and now offers webfonts and other formats for digital use direct from its new website.

Founder Jason Smith explains: “Over the last 15 years, Fontsmith has grown and developed along with our customers, moving with and listening to the needs of brands worldwide. Our customers have also evolved and we now have four kinds of client that buy our fonts: designers, small businesses, digital customers and large brands.”
