For over 30 years, more than 420 students from 35 countries refined their skills at the Basel School of Design. Wolfgang Weingart’s work as professor of typography and visiting lecturer has not only strengthened his students as graphic designers, but has also played a decisive role in modern typography and design.

This is the first book ever published from the perspective of Weingart’s students on his work and teaching. The collection of 77 statements is boldly illustrated with photos of Mr. Weingart and portraits of the individual students.

3 x Sverige på Typografisk Fredag | A4

Den 14 november är det åter dags för Typografisk Fredag med A4 på Kungliga Biblioteket. Den här gången gästas vi av tre inhemska typografer. Martin Lexelius berättar om typografi och graffiti, Eva Wilsson berättar bland annat om typografi för frimärken. Dessutom kommer Erik Moberg och Göran Söderström från byrån Letters from Sweden och berättar om sitt nya projekt för ett stort internationellt företag. Välkommen till föreläsning och eftermingel!

Typemedia2014

TypeMedia is a full-time one year Master program held at The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague in The Netherlands, that gives participants the possibility of delving deeper in the field of type design. At TypeMedia, students work intensively in small groups of no more than twelve persons. They work under the guidance of expert and enthusiastic teachers from the permanent and visiting faculty. Although the student’s personal motivation is given primary place, collaboration with other students is of fundamental importance.

The introduction of OpenType fonts in 2000 offered designers a rich and sophisticated typographic repertoire. The number of fonts that support these typographic features has grown exponentially over the years. And yet, we – the designers, producers, and users of digital type – have observed with growing despair how software applications offering typesetting capabilities have failed to provide an adequate typographic interface.
