Did you know that plastics account for 80% of all ocean pollution ? This is one of the most pressing challenges facing the ocean. Plastics pose a huge threat to the ocean ecosystem because they do not biodegrade. Instead, they continue to break into smaller and smaller pieces, which litter the ocean and its beaches.Organized by From the Bow Seat , this year’s contest asks you to explore the theme ” Our Oceans, Our Plastic ”, allowing you to explore and interpret the connections among the ocean, plastic pollution, society, and you.
All visual interpretations of the theme are welcome:
• Painting
• Drawing
• Prints
• Sculpture
• Textile
• Photography
An individual or group ( ranging from two people to an entire class of students ) may submit art.
There is no entry fee . Eligibility Any student worldwide in grades 6-8 or grades 9-12 ( or the international or homeschool equivalent ) is eligible. Prize • 1st place receives 1,500 USD for themselves and another 1,500 USD for their school
• 2nd place receives 1,000 USD
• 3rd place receives 500 USD
Moreover, 10 honorable mention recipients will receive 250 USD each, and three teachers will receive recognition awards of 750 USD each.
