ScreenFonts Special: Fontbuster Game

DEN HÄR ARTIKELN KOMMER FRÅN FontFeed »The FontFeed celebrates the summer with the Fontbuster game. At the TYPO Berlin 2014 conference the public beta next.fontshop.com introduced a new functionality. The first version of the upcoming Tryout feature allows you to test typefaces in context, with full control of typographic and colour attributes. For now the deceptively simple-looking beta only works with webfonts*, but the initial preview version already takes you well beyond the scope of traditional live font-rendering. Inspired by the start of the blockbuster season, we invite you to create typographic posters for films – real or imagined. The only restriction is that the film title needs to incorporate a typographic reference; a type-pun if you will. Share your best and most original creations, and we will publish them in this post. By the end of summer we will award the winner(s) some cool prizes (to be announced). Have fun!

* Currently, the Tryout feature works only with fonts that are available in webfont format. If no webfont version is available, you will be automatically routed to the “Try It!” page for other test-driving options.

Questions for the New Design Observer

I was intrigued to see the tweet yesterday announcing a new Design Observer. The venue is widely recognized as an authoritative platform for graphic design critique, but the design of the site itself always felt a bit out of touch with the modern web. This wasn’t helped by the notion — is it just mine? — that its founders represent in some ways the “establishment class” of the design field. Whether or not that judgment is valid, the founders have a long, proven record of good work. And much of their Design Observer writing was good, too. Which is why, stylistic preferences aside, I could overlook the conservative typography of Arial, Verdana, and PNGed Gotham squeezed with inconsistent spacing into narrow columns. (Heck, my own site lived on steady diet of Verdana and Georgia for seven years.) You could read the text. It worked.

Ren enkelhet

FF Franziska rhizom
GÅ TILL FONTFONT »Rhizom is a student magazine project from the Department of Design at FH Münster and is a perfect example of Jakob Runge’s FF Franziska in action. Throughout the project several of the widths available within the family are put into use, contributing towards the clear design layout and flow of the magazine.
