Created in 1952 by photographers and writers as common ground for the advancement of photography, Aperture today is a multi-platform publisher and centre that connects the photo community and its audiences with the most inspiring work, the sharpest ideas, and with each other – in print, in person, and online.
Part of their activities is the annual Aperture Portfolio Prize , which aim to identify trends in contemporary photography and highlight artists whose work deserves greater recognition.
When choosing the first-prize winner and runners-up, Aperture’s editorial and curatorial staff look for innovative bodies of work that haven’t been widely seen in major publications or exhibition venues.
Photographers may submit between six and twelve photographs ( no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side ), and you can enter as part of a team or collective ( providing at least one member of the duo or collective is a current Aperture Member ).
There is no entry fee . Eligibility Open worldwide to Aperture Foundation Members only. For more details regarding membership please visit [link] . Prize First prize is 3,000 USD and an exhibition at Aperture Gallery . The first-prize winner and up to five runners-up will be featured on Aperture’s website, accompanied by a brief statement written by Aperture staff.
All winners are announced in the foundation’s e-newsletter, which reaches fifty thousand subscribers across the globe, including curators, critics, and members of the photography community. Winners will also have the opportunity to participate in the Aperture Foundation limited-edition print program.
