The NordiCHI ( Nordic Conference on Human-Computer Interaction ) has lunched, for its 2014 edition, a Student Design Competition aiming at supplementing its program with unconventional and visionary entries and inviting the makers of a human-centered future to join the community.The topic of NordiCHI 2014 Student Design Competition deals with the links of interaction design and design of emerging digital solutions with the long tradition of material based design and craft. They ask the participants to pay attention to what high quality craftsmanship is, to the touch and feel of natural material and the combinations and/or transformations of these qualities in the domain of interaction design.

YouFab Global Creative Awards

YouFab is a global award that evaluates, from a creative perspective, new endeavors in digital fabrication and widely promotes the initiatives of creators all around the world.You can submit entries of all types of creative works made using digital fabrication tools such as the 3D printer , laser cutter or CNC milling machine . Or you can create your own digital fabrication tool itself and submit that.

A condition of entry is that works must be in their completed form and not left in the conceptional phase in the form of design plans or proposals. Submissions can be something that has already been launched, or something yet-to-be unveiled.

Painting On The Edge 2014 Competition

Organized by the Federation of Canadian Artists, Painting on the Edge is a juried competition open to all living artists worldwide featuring original paintings, printmaking and drawing media. Abstract , expressive , impressionist or realist styles are welcome.The name, Painting on the Edge , is partly derived from the physical location of Vancouver, BC Canada on the West Coast of North America, on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, and from the challenge issued to the artists to push their artistic limits and create extraordinary and unique images.

Entries are welcome from all artists working in two dimensions in all traditional art media (e.g. Oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel mixed media, gouache, egg tempera, pen and ink; drawing media such as graphite, charcoal, colored pencils, scratch board, markers, metal point, and two-dimensional collage ).

Digital art, photography or three-dimensional art such as installation art or sculpture will not be accepted.

Successful entries will combine an original subject or concept, feature excellent composition and skillful use of the chosen medium. They will capture the jury’s interest and excite or move the viewer because they represent the artist’s imagination, involvement and sincerity.

All works must be from the hand of a single artist; pieces that originate from a workshop or a class under the direction of a teacher are not eligible. All work must be for sale and priced in Canadian funds with intent to sell. A commission of 35% will be retained on all sold work.

Entry fees ( in Canadian dollars ) $25.00 per image for FCA members in good standing, $30.00 per image for non-members. Eligibility The contest is open to all artists worldwide. Prize Grand Prize : $2,000 (Canadian dollars, approx. 1,830 USD)

The opening reception and awards ceremony will be held on August 21th . Entries that are accepted for exhibition must remain on display until September 7, 2014 . Awards will be mailed to those winners unable to attend the awards ceremony.

Quadaward International Design Award

Quadaward is the first crowd-based International Design Award: independent and free of charge.« We want to replace the flow of expensive design-competitions with an alternative, up-to-date model which will enable the designers and students to enter the international comparison free of charge and to present their best works. » ( Anna Christowzik and Claudius Scheuch, designers and founders of quadaward )

Designers can submit their best works in nine categories:

Any user can view and rate the competition submissions. On a quarterly basis ( Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter ) the quadawards will be awarded in different categories – based on the ratings given by the community.

Red Dot Award Communication Design 2014

The Red Dot Award Communication Design 2014 is geared toward all creative talents, from agencies to design offices and freelancers to companies. Whether Corporate Design, Advertising or Online – the search is for the most innovative campaigns from the world of communication design.
In addition to the individual awards, each year the Red Dot Agency of the Year and the Red Dot Client of the Year are selected for special achievements. The Award also provides a platform for up-and-coming designers, with the best piece of work by an apprentice, a student or young graduate winning the Red Dot Junior Prize along with prize money of 10,000 EUR.Participants may enter as many works as they wish. One work may consist of up to eight separate objects/pieces. One and the same work can be entered up to four different categories. Depending on the category, projects can be submitted in a physical, non-digital form, in digital form or, for cross-media communications, in both of these.

Packaging Design, Game Design or Online – these are only a few of the 16 categories within the Red Dot Award Communication Design . From year to year, the competition develops in order to reflect the whole expertise of the creative sector.

The jury comprises renowned experts and its composition changes every year. In addition to experienced jury members, new experts are constantly added to guarantee an independent and fresh perspective on current developments within the communication design scene.

Entry fees:

• Regular ( until June 2 ): 245 EUR (approx. 333 USD)
• Latecomer ( June 3 – June 27 ): 315 EUR (approx. 430 USD)

Participants of the Red Dot Junior Award receive a 20% discount . Eligibility The competition is open to designers, agencies, design companies and clients of works of the entire spectrum of communication design, having been realised and published between June 1, 2011 and June 1, 2014 .

The Red Dot Junior Award is a separate competition open to students from universities, other institutions of higher learning and vocational schools, as well as to young designers who have graduated within the last three years. Prize Receiving the renowned Red Dot acts as proof of the excellent design achievements of professionals and up-and-coming talents alike, thus symbolising a seal of quality of their ability.

The winners of the Red Dot Award Communication Design are traditionally honoured at the Red Dot Gala in the Konzerthaus Berlin. Afterwards, the international design scene celebrates together at the legendary Designers’ Night , which also marks the vernissage of the ” Design on Stage ” winners’ exhibition.
